When I’ve interviewed for an SEO job in the past, I was carefully reading the company culture, and whether they’re going to trust me. Trick questions signal a lack of trust right away — and anyone who isn’t an SEO expert themselves but wants me to do a trial run for 3 months so they can see what I can do? Sounds risky, as that may not be enough time to make a meaningful impact on a set of web properties. Along with the time needed to get used to the company and understand the industry, a new SEO (at least, an in-house one), may need to spend the beginning of their tenure working to educate the team, building credibility, and submitting projects that others may be in charge of implementing per their schedule. It may be weeks before big changes start to even show up on the websites, never mind perform. Personally, I wouldn’t accept an offer for a short-term trial run.
